- DiscussionA short film on a big theme is the free HFFC event offered to the public on Dec 5th via Zoom. Winner of a Hollywood International Documentary Festival “ Best First Film” award, “Leaving God” takes an impartial, investigative look at the rapidly changing religious landscape in America — away from church, traditional religion, and God. In doing so, with a well-crafted mix of angst and humor, it parallels the filmmaker’s own detachment from long-held beliefs. TopDocumentaryFilms.com, a site featuring the film, calls it “absorbing” and says “Many viewers will empathize with the deeply personal testimony at its center, and it may also inspire thoughtful self-reflection and debate amongst those who remain firmly committed to their faith.” Film Trailer: http://bit.ly/2vypoRq The 7pm, Dec 5th screening will be followed by a live Q&A with the filmmaker, John Follis. - DiscussionOn June 16, 2020 – just before Abby Hafer's talk – HFFC president Cary Shaw conducted our 2020 Annual Meeting. The most pressing order of business was the election of officers, Steering Committee members and committee leads; the entire slate (which was distributed in advance) was approved in a blanket vote. Cary also used the meeting to share what HFFC expenses are – how our membership dues are used. The other HFFC officers and committee chairs then shared their objectives, key accomplishments in the 2019-2020 year and some upcoming plans. HFFC had an active and successful year! Here are two files with more infomation: The HFFC Annual Meeting minutes, when you can see details about these areas of interest: Programming and Events, Communications, Social Action, Outreach (including swag), and the “Books, etc.” and Science Readers discussion groups.
