Humanist Invocation

A humanist invocation is a statement of our values. Invocations can be presented at many occasions. Often, these occasions are used by religions to offer prayers.

Cary Shaw, the Humanist and Freethinkers of Fairfield County President, gave the invocation on the left at the opening of a Connecticut Senate session in 2020. Click here to watch the video of his presentation.

As humanists, we need to use these occasions to present our values. Often the people hearing the invocation are hearing of  humanists for the first time. They are not aware that humanists have values and are good and moral people.

We encourage you to look for occasions that are proper and present an invocation of your own. You may model your invocation after the one at the left.
