Factfulness: Ten Reasons We're Wrong About the World--and Why Things Are Better Than You Think by Hans Rosling et al “One of the most important books I’ve ever read—an indispensable guide to thinking clearly about the world.” – Bill Gates The HFFC book club is led by Manny Ratafia and meets roughly monthly. Aside from the conversation and discussion on the book chosen, members enjoy good food and drink and, most importantly, time with other members of HFFC. The giant chocolate cookie was, like the reading of the book, finished!

On June 9th, 11 members from the HFFC met at Panera Bread, 1860 Post Road East, Westport, CT to enjoy a watch party of a livestream from Miami of the last morning of the American Humanist Association (AHA) annual conference. The American Humanist Association has stood as the voice of humanism in the United States for over 75 years, with Albert Einstein as an early member.
One of the speakers was our own Steering Committee Program Chair of HFFC, Anita Peters. Anita, who is also a Humanist Celebrant, discussed “Let’s Celebrate Humanism! Assigning Significance Within a Secular Life.” Why have secular celebrations? As comedian Henny Youngman said, “I once considered becoming an atheist….but they have no holidays.” Anita suggests we should fix that!
The other speakers on Sunday discussed evolution education, the right to die with dignity, a humanist sociological approach, and humanism in the workplace. Five presentations on great topics at the nation's oldest and biggest humanist organization.
